A4 EMBOSSING FOLDERS : YOUR VIEWS !

I would like to hear from any of you who use and A4 size embossing folders . How do you use them , what do you use them for as oposed to smaller sizes .

Please leave your views here .

Do you prefer designs to run vertically or horizontally ? For some designs i know this does not matter , but for some it may . It just depends how you use your folders .

  1. Hi Gordon. A4 folders are too large for my liking and I wouldn't buy unless it is a pattern I really like and could cut down. I much refer no larger than 8 x 8. Regards. SueL

  2. Hi gordon, I like to make a long landscape card with an 12x12 pice of card, and so the A4 emboss folders come in very handy for those. cant wait to get my hands on those you have coming. I'm the lady who dosnt read instruction sheets properly. IE bottle top through the big shot pro. ( found it.) :-)

  4. I use the A4 embossing folders to make larger cards. On most cards I would like the pattern to be vertical.

  5. Well, I think A4 folders would be great. OK, they may be more expensive, but you have the choice of doing an A4 card, 8x8 etc. The A5 ones are good, but if you want to make an 8x8 for example at the mo, you have to jiggle the folder to fit and put back through the machine. And sometimes it's difficult not to get "lines"?where you don't want "lines" where the edge of that folder digs in to the card or whatever you put through the machine...Jen.

  6. Hi

I have the 2 Spellbinders A4 embossing folders - Dainty Dots (which I love) and Garden Lattice.

I tend to emboss several sheets of A4 card with each design and then cut them down to the sizes I require, which will depend on the size of the greetings card I am making. As embossing folders appear to be made for the large american market which uses the imperial system, metric users did not have an option designed for their A4/A5/A6/DL sizes until the arrival of A4 folders. The general 'A2' size embossing folder is not the correct size for our A6 cards and although the 5"x7" folders are great for that size of card, I am not aware of any folders that cater for an A5 size card front. Embossing an entire DL card front was impossible without a 'break' in the embossing. This means that metric size users either need to design their card around the use of a folder which doesn't entirely cover a metric card front, or cut their card in accordance with the imperial sizing.

Metric A4/A5/A6 and DL sizes are now catered for since the appearance of A4 folders.

I emboss card fronts by placing the fold of the card in line with the bottom edge of the A4 folder when using the Grand Calibur. It's possible, however, to use the long sides of the folders when embossing with the BigShot Pro as you are not restricted by the mouth of the machine and have sufficient area to allow you to emboss in either direction. So a 12x12 or larger machine allows both options as designs can be embossed whether they run horizontally or vertically.

I'll be interested to read what others do!

  8. I like to emboss the front of cards so use the A4 size a lot, it would be nice though to have patterns horizontally and vertically so that you can make portrait and landscape cards. Looking forward to seeing what designs you come up with.

  9. A4 embossing folders could be useful, as long as the pattern wasn't too large, otherwise, cutting them down could end up looking clumsy on a smaller card ..
Swirls are always good & Abstract too ..
Art Deco - Retro - would do ladies or gents cards ..
Full pages of flowers / shapes, with co-ordinating punches/dies ..

And A4 Dies would be very useful for cutting shaped cards - simple designs IMO work best, but it's hard to cut your own, & the ready cut ones are often expensive ..

If I think of any more, I'll let you know ..

  10. Hi Gordon, it's good to be able to have these discussions on craft products instead choices being made for us crafters, I'd much prefer A4 folders as, like others have said, you can then cut to size or use whole for larger cards, I also like the idea of landscape and portrait designs as it gives more options, I'd like to see flowers/birds/and ditsy prints if possible and a selection suitable for mens cards would be good too, look forward to seeing the end products soon, I bet they will be delish!

  13. A nice swirly pattern would be good as you could use it for both orientations.

My biggest problem at the moment is trying to decide which colour to order!
